Lydia, Saitta. Geta. AD 198-209. Æ 17mm, 2.45 g. Bareheaded and draped bust right / Apollo standing left, leaning on short column, legs crossed and holding branch. BMC 49. Very Fine, dark green patina.
Geta, younger brother of Caracalla, ruled briefly as co-emperor before being assassinated by his sibling. His coins are relatively rare and typically show a youthful portrait with personifications like Pietas, Fides, and Spes, representing imperial virtues. After his death, Geta was subjected to damnatio memoriae, making surviving coinage especially desirable to collectors.
